Another wedding dinner over. Funny how despite what the bride might have said about her wedding NOT turning out like the standard Chinese wedding banquest, it was pretty much the same, complete with Powerpoint Presentation. (Is it a purely Singapore thing?) Very efficient; table by table and all. Nothing too exciting but at least the food at the Grand Copthorne was good. Once went to a wedding dinner where they played Eye of the Tiger when the waiters first came in. Now that was too much...

Well my plans to use the Clear Card for my gym membership has been foiled. ALL the slots for April have been taken up. Freaking ridiculous. Guess will inquire about the SPH gym...
We had a very funny conversation about this super rich divorcee who had a kinda ohbiang apartment. One of the gals said that he might have been gay, but we said have you ever seen a gay guy with an ahbeng apartment, complete with gold trimmings on taps and two televisions IN THE BATHROOM so he wouldn't miss a soccer game? Furthermore he was married to one of the most gorgeous actresses around... hard to imagine him being gay.
Nice dinner at Sakae Sushi which only came up to about $10. Busy weekend with one wedding to attend, and mom coming out. Hope to find time to hit the gym even if I don't manage to grab a swim....

Replies by Miss Singapore Universe contestants to various questions posed to them in the newest 8 Days.
Q: Is world peace a cliche?
Contestant #1 Fong Siao Yen:
Cliche? What's that?
Contestant #17 Joann Ng:
Cliche? I don't know what that word means.
Contestant #12 Jesslyn Wong:
Cliche means a big daydream right? (After being told what a cliche means) Oh I don't care what people think. If that's the truth, it's the truth.
Q: What's your greatest hope for the world?
Contestant #7 Valerie Tang:
To eliminate poverty. We need to standardise income so that children don't die of hunger and there won't be beggars.
Q: What sets you apart from the other contestants?
Contestant #7 Valerie Tang:
I think I am very kind-hearted. I also like to weigh myself after every meal. After I drink a glass of water, I'll weigh myself. after I take a nap, I'll weigh myself. After I eat a biscuit, I'll weigh myself. and if I'm one kg heavier, I'll go without dinner.
Q: Do you know who is the current secretary-general of the UN?
Contestant #11 Christine Ni:
I'm not very sure... I'm too busy studying and preparing for the paegant finals.
Contestant #18 Kanmani Corine:
Tony Blair?
Contestant #17 Joann Ng:
No, the UN is so far away

At 6:30 in the morning, there's a maid washing a van in the car park outside my house. Singaporeans... how will they ever live without hired help?
One day, 4 babies were born at K.K. Hospital: a German, a Jewish, a Filipino and a Singaporean.
However, someone mixed up the babies by mistake, and the nurses couldn't differentiate between them.
However, the head sister had a bright idea. She lined the babies up in front of her and exclaimed, "Heil Hitler!"
At hearing this, the German baby raised his arm in a salute, while the Jewish baby soiled his diapers. In the meantime, the Singaporean baby turned to the Filipino baby and said, "Clean that up!"

Sometimes it's SO hard to read your own stuff. You think to yourself Man this is such crap. How could I write this?
Ah well got to persist...on and on and on.

I think in Singapore there's probably at worst three degrees of seperation between you and anyone else. That's the way it is on this slab of mud in the sea...

A portrait of Russell Yates.
''You know how they say sometimes your dreams reflect some kind of hope you have?'' Yates said. ''I'll have dreams that two of my children are still alive, that Andrea only killed three. Think of that, dreaming that only three are dead, not five.'' He was now visibly upset. ''My nightmares are better than my reality.''
Whether his wife was sane or insane, guilty or innocent, life sentences of a kind have already been dispensed for many people, including Rusty Yates. ''If Andrea gets well and works through her guilt and can go on, we've got a chance,'' he said hopefully as the evening drew to a close. ''But I know I can't hold her hand for 50 years while she cries. I just don't have the strength to do it.''
